MTBS Data Explorer (December 16, 2020)

MTBS is pleased to announce the release of the MTBS Data Explorer.  The MTBS Data Explorer is a Google Earth Engine-based application that enables users to easily explore and visualize the entire MTBS burn severity data archive.  It also provides capabilities to filter burn severity data by user-defined spatial and temporal extents, generates on the fly computations and tabular and graphic summaries of burn severity statistics and trends, and integrates several contextual datasets for burn severity analys

MTBS Data Release (November 24, 2020)

MTBS has released the remaining 716 fire mappings for 2018, bringing the total release for 2018 fires to 1,129. This release also includes a comprehensive reprocessing of the entire MTBS archive (1984 through 2018) to introduce consistent vector attribution and metadata updates, plus an additional 1540 new fire mappings and dozens of revisions to previously mapped fires spanning the archive. With this data release to, the total number of fires mapped by the project increases to 25,614.

2018 Interim Data Release (July 23, 2020)

MTBS has published 413 new fires to This data release contains 2018 fires from 15 western states including AK. The full release of the 2018 data is anticipated to occur by the end of fall 2020. With this release the MTBS data record now spans 1984 through 2018. This data release also contains revisions of previously release mappings from previous fire years, bringing the total number of fires mapped by the project to 23,372.
